AMAZING GIVEAWAY!

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Lucky you!The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me! My choice. For you. This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:
1- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
2- What I create will be just for you.
3- It’ll be done this year. (might be a little while)
4- You have no clue what it’s going to be. It may be a story. It may be poetry or an article on properly cleaning your face before a masque. I may draw or paint something. I may bake you something and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that’s for sure!
5- I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.
The catch? Oh, the catch is that you must repost this on your blog and offer the same to the first 5 people who do the same on your blog.
The first 5 people to do so and leave a comment telling me they did win a FAB-U-LOUS homemade gift by me!
Oh, and be sure to post a picture of what you win when you get it!
Good luck!

How Nice!

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

This morning I woke up faintly hearing the garbage truck. It normally comes closer to 9 am on our street, and it was so faint that I thought it was still on another street. It was only about 10 after 8. Normally if I have the garbage out by 8:30 we are in great shape. Not so this morning. That faint sound was the garbage truck right outside. As he picked up the trash in the circle behind us I ran outside and started carting my extremely full trash can down the street toward my neighbors house on the other side of the circle. The garbage man (is there a PC version of that title? Environmental Protector or something?) was nice enough to wait for me to finish bringing it down and was very kind as he emptied it for me. We weren’t here last week, and the week before we had forgot to take it out altogether, so this can of trash was in much need of emptying. I am grateful for having my trash picked up this morning.

My Hero!

Friday, January 9th, 2009

My parents gave us a tin of danish cookies and we just finished eating them today (YUM!).  Tevita gathered all of the empty paper cup out of the tin and nested them together.  He carried them around on his chest for a while before he found the tape and asked me to help him attach it to his shirt.  Can you guess which superhero he is currently in love with?

I hope it lasts long enough for Sione to see it when he gets home. It’s just too choice to keep to myself!

About Wednesdays

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

I am looking forward to March 25th in some ways.  Dreading it in other ways.  Why?  Because that is the day Tarina turns 12.  I’m sure many people can understand why I am not looking forward to that.  I just don’t know how ready I am to have 2 of my children out of Primary and in Young Womens.  Goodness!  On the other hand, my Wednesdays will be much easier.  Right now Julie has Young Womens every Wednesday starting at 6:30pm.  She is usually able to get a ride home from one of the leaders, so I only have to drop her off at the church.  Every Wednesday Collin has scouts at 6pm.  One of the weeks every month is pack meeting, and on that week we can just all go to the church at 6 and Julie heads out at 6:30 to join the YW.  The other weeks I have to drop him off at his Den leader’s home at 6 and pick him up at 7.  If it were earlier in the day he could walk.  If it were not so dark and cold in the evenings at this time of year he could walk.  It is not, so I drop him off and pick him up.  Now we add in the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays for Tarina.  Today was the first Wednesday.  She needs to be at her Activity Day leader’s home by 5:15, and she is done at 6:15.  Man!  Nothing like coming and going from my home that often in such a short period of time.  If they could all start at the same time that would make things a lot easier.  But they don’t.  And I can be grateful that they are in the close proximity that they are.  Alright.  My whinefest is over now.  And it will only last until March 25th.  Maybe I need to enjoy it while I can instead.

Help!

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

Because of some new legislation that goes into effect as of February 10th it will become illegal to sell something second-hand or homemade without spending a prohibitive amount of money. There are some grassroot movements to try to stop this outrageous problem. This blog has many links and ideas. Please, please, please check it out!

Losahina’s Haircut

Monday, January 5th, 2009

A couple of months ago Collin was playing with Losahina by brushing her hair. He got the brush tangled in her hair, and decided to take care of the problem logically on his own instead of coming to me for help. He cut it out. I did what I could at the time, but she was left with some very short sections throughout her hair. The past few weeks her hair has just been driving me crazy. I will try to style it, but unless it is in elastics (which she doesn’t like all of the time) it just returns to an awful mess within minutes. I have been thinking if trimming it all to one length now that the shorter parts have grown out, but just couldn’t bring myself to try it before. With Tamra here for support I took the leap and cut her hair. Here is the result. Not to bad. And it will grow out.

Faith’s Blessing

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Faith’s blessing was today. Everything went well. We stayed for the whole block so the kids could go to their new classes, and I could take over for my first week in Nursery. I wasn’t as organized as I would like to be for nursery. It went smoothly, but I need to make a routine schedule to follow. 15 minutes before church ended I was changing Faith out of her dress because she had a blowout. *sigh* At least it is machine washable. Here are some pics of her in her dress that Tamra took yesterday……before the blowout! LOL Click on a pic to make it larger.

Sewing

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

For Christmas I made bedwarmers for my children and hubby. I used wheat for the filler, and made them all unique. Faith’s matches her dress and blanket I made for Alena to give her.

Alena helped me make it, and wanted to make sure that Faith could wear the dress to church. This picture was taken when we got home from church last Sunday.

Since we are blessing her tomorrow, I made Faith’s blessing dress this week. My moods varied between confidence that it would be beautiful to insecurity that I would mess it up and not have a dress for her to wear. I needed to make a few modifications from the pattern I had.

The pattern called for all-over lace that had a scalloped edge. I had all-over lace without a scalloped edge, and I had wide edge lace with a nice scallop that went well with the all-over lace. I sewed them together, and then covered the seam with a nice lace trim.

I was supposed to put little bows on the sleeves, but decided to put rosettes there instead, since I didn’t have the right size width of white ribbon. I also couldn’t find the right size rosette to just put one in the middle of the bodice, so I put a cluster of 3 there instead. All in all I think it turned out very pretty indeed. It is also very long, which I am loving! Tamra took some beautiful pictures of her in the dress this afternoon, and as soon as I get them I will add them here for you to see.
Thanks for letting me share. :)
